Simply You vs Authentically You: Choosing the Right Wedding Ceremony for You

Not sure whether Simply You or Authentically You is the right wedding ceremony for you? Melbourne Celebrant Kate Mac explains what both ceremony options have in common, the difference in their depth, and how to choose the ceremony that feels right for you.

What’s your ceremony style?

Hi, I’m Celebrant Kate Mac, and this blog exists to help you figure out which ceremony style feels right for you.

I offer two options, Simply You and Authentically You, and while they’re different in length, they share the same heart.

Before we get into the differences, let’s start with what’s the same.

What Simply You and Authentically You Have in Common

Both Simply You and Authentically You ceremonies are:

  • Written especially for you

  • Relaxed, warm, and connected in tone

  • Designed to welcome your guests and bring everyone into the moment

  • Inclusive of acknowledgements for the important people in your lives

  • A meaningful celebration of what this moment represents for you both

No matter which option you choose, your ceremony will feel personal, intentional, and true to you.

The Key Difference: Length

The biggest difference between Simply You and Authentically You is length...

  • Authentically You is a 20–30 minute ceremony

  • Simply You is a 10 minute ceremony

Both are meaningful. Both are connected.
The difference is the depth of each element in your ceremony.

I’ll take you through some of those elements and some examples…

Acknowledging the People Who Matter Most

Let’s say we’re acknowledging someone special to you.

  • In an Authentically You ceremony, we have space to share 3-4 sentences, something a little more reflective and detailed

  • In a Simply You ceremony, it’s more like a shout-out in 1–2 sentences, still meaningful but more succinct

Sharing Your Story

This is often where couples really feel the difference.

In an Authentically You ceremony, we can explore your story in more depth. That might include:

  • What’s important to you as a couple

  • Insights into your relationship

  • Reflections on your journey or achievements

  • What you value and love about each other

Think of this as 4–6 short paragraphs that capture who you are and what you’re celebrating.

In a Simply You ceremony, we focus on the essence of your relationship in 1 paragraph that still conveys you and is meaningful, just not as much depth.

Planning and Preparation

Both options include the same number of planning sessions, so you’ll feel supported either way.

The difference is in the time we spend in each meeting:

  • Authentically You: around 60-minute sessions

  • Simply You: around 30-minute sessions

This reflects the level of depth we’re creating together.

Your Vows and the Legal Side

No matter which ceremony you choose:

  • You’ll receive guidance and support to write your vows

  • All legal requirements are seamlessly included in your ceremony

So you can focus on the experience, knowing everything is taken care of.

Which One Is Right for You?

There’s no “better” option, just what feels right for you.

If you’re drawn to something short, simple, and meaningful, Simply You might be the perfect fit.
If you’d love a little more space to explore your story and create a fuller ceremony experience, Authentically You could be the one.

Either way, your ceremony will be a celebration of you, and a moment you’ll genuinely love.
